WRESTLING

MY RETURN TO WRESTLING
JULY 28, 2024

Just got back into WWE and I am suprised that I have quickly picked up interest in the stuff again after so many years. I used to watch it with my brother over 8 years ago and since then, the memories of matches returning and the magic or pro wrestling is beginning to make sense again. I started by blankly watching muscular men playing out a rehersed fight, slamming eachother into the ground and that turned, slowly, into an exciting story where you can really feel the pain of the things they do in the ring. That switch in my brain turned on again and I am excited, right before Summerslam 2024. Of course WWE has been better in the past, but we do not abandon things after they have peaked, as that certifies that they will not peak once again.

WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT (WWE)

MONDAY NIGHT RAW - JULY 29, 2024
I'm pretty hyped for Summerslam. Its cool to see an adequate amount of familiar faces such as cm punk, carlito and sheamus as well as a bunch of new people such as Dominick mysterious, jay USO or Gunther. I like the commander gimmick that Gunther has. Been watching a lot of WWE video essays and its given me a lot of insight into Sami zayns past as el generico, and to see he does comedy too, I wanna see him beat Damian priest, kinda silly name. sami does these crazy air moves that are really impressive. I wasn't really into women's wrestling when I was younger but I'm also pretty hyped for the rhea Ripley and liv morgan match. the storyline with Dominick was pretty funny too watch like the 3 words thing they did. the sami zayn and Dominick mysterious match was very good, especially at the end when all these people came out going after sami and he handled it all. I love it when the matches fall apart at the end and it turns into unpredicable chaos.

SUMMERSLAM - AUGUST 3, 2024
summerslam is massive. I always forget how big wwe really is. there was this fat guy singing which was pretty funny, jelly rolls or something. the match between Ripley and liv was okay, the twist at the end that Dominick is with liv again or was scheming the whole time is funny. The next match with Bron breaker was sort of underwhelming, I would have liked sami zayn to have a bigger match but that's alright. then Logan Paul came out, a guy who I knew through YouTube dramas years ago, now wrestling for wwe which is really strange but cool to see. he does well in these types of environments, playing the same type of character, embracing the heel. YouTube dramas and their overall sillyness sort of resemble wwe's silly dramas sometimes, a cool parallel. this LA knight guy is good too, good with his promo. that match was great, a constant surprise of kicking out eaxhother s pins over and over again, messing with the commentary table and the prime cart thing. its great seeing matches use outside resources, makes it more immersive. some crazy flipping moves in this match, culminating with the maverick trying to use brass knuckles and it backfiring in his defeat. great match that was a rollercoaster of a time. I'm still never gonna buy prime.
the cm punk and macintyre match was fun to watch because the referee was seth rollins, which means the order of the math was badly maintained. they were able to do more extreme stuff like slam eachother into the ring and the stairs. their interractions between rollins was funny as they kept seeing his incompetence as a referee and how much of a distraction he was. it sucks that cm punk didnt win but he did a pretty good job considering their differences physically. after that was probably my favourite match in summerslam, gunther vs. damian priest. they both did a very good job with this match and i was suprised at how much they put eachother through. the slap noises that would echo through the arena when they hit eachother was the cherry on top, and all the slams they did were very impressive, considering how big they are. gunther is probably the best wrestler ive seen since ive starting watching wwe again, he has a very authentic direct style that fits well with his character. there was a part when they were back and forth on the top rope, that was pretty good, as well as the whole mid section of the match where gunther was obliterating priest, followed by finn balor causing a ruckus, giving time for priest to recover. the way matches can just change its narrative in a moment keep you on the edge, especially as right when you think priest is going to win, finn balor betrays him as the second internal rupture of judgement day occurs. he puts gunther's legs on the ropes, ruining the change of victory at that moment. priest looks up at the replay and is blown away by this betrayal, which lets gunther recover and puts priest in two sleeper holds, inevitably securing his victory.
the next match, being the main event, was cody rhodes defending the wwe title against solo sikoa. i didn't pay much attention to the first half of the match but after people started intervening such as randy orton and the bloodline twins, i was hooked again. according to 'bloodline rules', they were allowed to use weapons and people came in, it was a big disaster and that gave it its magic. roman reigns even came in at the end and ruined the match for solo sikoa and cody defended the belt!
overall, summerslam was a very fun event to watch, with my favourite event being gunther vs priest, but other matches like logan pauls, or rhea ripley were really good too.
