switching to linux
considering switching to linux

recently i have been seriously considering switching to linux. the people who only use windows but have never tried linux say windows is better and the people who have used both mostly say that linux is better. the main reason i am switching is particularily because of privacy and security reasons, i have heard that linux is much better privacy wise as it does not send mountains of information to the company that owns the os, while windows does. windows comes preinstalled with a bunch of sketchy bloatware programs all having a very generic privacy policy that allows them to send so many things about location, the user and how the computer is used to microsoft. even downloading windows for the first time it practically begs you to turn on location, speech recognition send non manditory diagnostic data including "info about the websites you browse" and other stuff.

also windows security is very bad, you have to keep your eyes peeled everytime you want to download a program because if you type it wrong or click the wrong website and download, you are screwed. my sister just did that to a windows 10 office computer! she wanted to visit zombo com the best website of all time and typed one letter wrong. she was taken to one of those fake websites that fullscreens and pretends to be windows security. the reason linux security is so much better is because with most of the programs you will ever need can be safely installed in the console thing and most viruses were designed for windows so they wouldnt do anything to a linux machine. another good reason i want linux is because of it's ability to customize the look of everything.
the distro that looks most promising is linux mint. it's pretty simple to navigate and easy to transition from windows layout probably the main reason me and others havent switched to linux is for one big reason, the lack of support of certain programs like games and adobe programs. here is a list of programs i use and if they work on linux or not.

apperently steam has been trying really hard to get games on linux and thats good. it would be great if one os didnt rule over the smaller ones
i think will be hard to get used to but with time i will learn to use it effectively. i will be able to do online classes easy because i can use microsoft teams and the libre office programs to view pages. another cool thing is that if i just want to test it, i can make a live usb thing and test out linux mint without fully installing it to the computer. i have also heard about dual booting both windows 10 and linux mint but it seems demanding on the computer and complicated . i will try using linux mint for a few weeks and if it's bad enough, i might go back to windows, who knows...
