email
i don't use gmail, sure its design is very convenient and easy but thats how they pull users in. the real problem comes in once you find out that that really long text box that you clicked agree to when you started using gmail allows them to track your emails you have and search for keywords so they can sell that to 3rd party advertisers, most of the people using gmail aren't even remotely aware of who has access to their emails, engineers, random 3rd party companies and more can use google ad word analytics to collect key words and use that to advertise you products, and google does this with every aspect of its programs, and it's how they make a lot of their money. i'm not sure about the other email providers like yahoo or outlook but iv'e heard that yahoo isn't very secure and outlook is also privacy sketchy because it's owned by one of the biggest sketchiest software companies, Microsoft, i will talk about them later. what do i use? i use proton mail, its a company found in 2013 by CERN scientists which is pretty cool to be honest. they promise end to end encryption allowing for a very secure connection, they are open source they promise to never store your personal data under any circumstances because of the privacy laws in Switzerland which is where their servers are, and for me personally, i find it pretty easy to navigate. the bad thing though is that if you want fancy stuff like the ability to store a lot of emails over a long period of time or other features, you need to pay them but thats not really a problem for me. remember, the main idea of this page is to give tips on what apps, sites and other things to due based on my experience. i'm not saying what i use is better in every way than what you use, but it is probably better privacy wise.
