#1 - No Need For A Flush When Number One Is Done
When one urinates, what is produced is essentially mostly water with a small amount of waste. No harm is done when urine simply mixes itself with more water, there is no reason to flush besides any odour that may come which is why toilet bowls can be covered (and odour is an indication that you should drink more water to make your pee clearer and your body more hydrated). Any time #1 is done, do not flush and save a few liters of water, keep it unflushed until a #2 is done, obviously. When women pee, they use toilet paper which challenges this tip, but using common sense, in the chance that a girl(s) have used the toilet for urination multiple time consecutively (what are the chances!), then flush when there is an appropriate amount of toilet paper. See all the water being saved...
#2 - Wipe With Less
After you have finished your business, try limiting yourself to 2-4 pieces of bathroom tissue, depending on the ply of said tissue. Lesser ply will require more toilet paper to do the same job. When wiping, wipe with a corner of the tissue paper and then use a different part of the same sheet to wipe again. One can simply fold over the used part of the bathroom tissue to use once again. The technique takes a bit of time and practise to get used to, but once this introduced, you will find that your toilet paper supply will diminish less frequently. This idea applies to many of the tips beyond here, how much can be saved over a life time of using even 1% less of a resource you spend money on, and how little of an inconvienience it is.
#3 - Repurpose Jars And Some Plastic Food Containers
Glass and plastic jars and container sold with the food you buy such as cottage cheese, peanut butter, jam , tomato sauce, pickles, margarine, sour cream and more can be washed and reused for multiple other purposes. What holds my water around the house is an old pickle jar with no lid, what holds the pencils on my writing desk is an old olive jar, I use bigger plastic containers such as peanut butter jars to hold screws and other small items together. The best use is using these reused containers to hold leftover food or lunch to bring places. Keep in mind that one should only reuse plastic containers for food storage if the plastic is marked with a #5, as this type of plastic is least likely to leach BPA into your food. Try to keep hot foods away from these plastic containers and be aware that plastic begins to degrade ove rtime, and the longer you reuse plastic for storing food, the higher chance that chemicals such as BPA could leech into your food. For a while, I used old small jars for chip dips to hold leftovers for lunch the next dar, BPA is no worry with glass, which makes it appropriate to microwave it. Be creative with the uses of containers, the possibilities are endless.
#4 - Extension Cord Ascension
Everytime you have something with an attached electrical cord and that is truly broken, meaning that it is more of an expence to repair it rather than simply get a new one, then it is important to cut off said cord at the entry point of the machine. Using basic wiring knowledge, these cords can be saved and reused to repair or extend the wiring of any electronically powered device you wish. This allows a basic exercise of crucial electronic knowledge as well as lets you customize and fix your belongings.
#5 - Arrive With The Flask, Not The Bottle
When engaging in recreational alcohol activities, with whomever may be there to stress your liver alongside you, the liquor that is used to get you to such a state can and should be brought in smaller amounts, in smaller containers, such as a sentimental and durable whiskey flask, or a water bottle. This is because it will both guarantee that the entire bottle won't be committed to the deterioriation of others wits, instead of yours and it will prevent any overusage of these fluids, preventing worse hangovers, sickness, etc.. Low end hard liquor is quick, efficient and generally cheaper per drink compared to other types of alcohol though still an unnecessary and ghastly expense! This means that if your motives, as subjective and valued as they are, are not entirely focused on alcoholic philantropy and 'living young', then this will conserve your monies in the long term. Personally, I buy the cheapest and largest bottle of rum and have done the calculation across different types of alcohol and found that in my area, that is what is cheapest per alcoholic drink. I pour from the large bottle into a smaller bottle, in order to conserve what is used at a party.
Cardboard's Fortunes
Cereal boxes, froxen pizza boxes and other cardboard boxes, rather than being wasted for the recycling system, can be used for yourself. These boxes can be broken down for space and can be cut out in usable sizes. For example, I keep big sheets of cardboard from food packaging to both protect my desk from ware, to use as a coaster and to be written on, for reminders, to test pens on what would be my desk's surface. With thumbtacks, and small square pieces of this stuff, one does not need to buy sticky notes anymore. Ticker cardboard can be carried around and used as a sort of temporary lipboard. There was a point when the corner of my desk was inhabited by a large stack of cut cardboards that I would use for all sorts of my writings and notes rather than dig into my precious paper supply. This all can also be used for crafts, boxes can be used for organisation and much, much more. The possibilities will flow within an imaginative conscience.
Self-Sufficient Buzz Cuts For A More Humble Future
Are you so dependant on others that you require other people to cut your hairs, it is almost like you should pay people to trim your fingernails and body hair as well. Simply do it yourself to make a bold statemeny that shows you aren't so fragile that you are simply content with all the hairs on your head being the same length. One can easily use the money you would have used for one haircut to buy some hair clippers and give yourself a buzz cut, easy and simple; teaches you to not care so much about what other people think and most importantly (within the context of these texts) free! You could even get a family member or your girlfriend or something to help you cut your hair. It doesn't matter what perspective you hold or way you do it, as long as you are holding a humble standard that allows for more independance and saving money in the process, it will be alright.
Late Night Homemade Delight
If you are hanging out with your friends and as the quiet stillness of the night enters as well as a desperation for indulgence and the moos is in the air for food, usually pizza or other little greasy appetizers, this can be a daunting situation. Burning desires to order a pizza arise and you can only imagine the intensity of having to split a delivered food bill, highly upscaled prices. In these sorts of situations, you feel like a sort of social outcast as you know that the joy you will have gotten from a warm and delicious late night delivered will not be enough to overpower the entrancing regret, knowing that you have indulged in luxury and have poured more funds that contribute to your purpose, elsewhere. The best thing to do is to preach the simple fact that you are trying to save your money and obtaining food in this way is more expensive than ever and to advocate for a oven pizza or other processed appetizer type food that can be prepared in an oven for example. Not only will it be more fulfilling as the effort you put in to make it will have contributed into knowing that you are enjoying something you made (not really made, but prepared) but as usual, you know you have saved yourself and the people you care about's money. Our obligation satisfied.
Alcohol Comparisons
Alcohol, it is both one of the ways that our money is easten up as well as one of the ways to cope with the lack of money. With our natural intense craving for this social lubrication to occur every week or so, we must question and look for the most effective way to acheive a state of intoxication. From my research, I have found that hard liquors and the capability and efficiency they have of getting people drunk exceeds that of the average low alcohol count drink like wine or beer. It is more conservative financially to buy the cheapest spirits than to buy the cheapest beer or similar alternatives. When it comes to comparing different types of products that essentially serve the same purpose, one has to think objectively about how these are made and decide which one takes more effort from the manufacturer, the transporter and the distributor. We can apply this to generic beer vs generic liquor such as cheap rum. It takes more water from the manufacturer to make beer than to make liquor as the percentage of ethyl alcohol is lower (%5)ish compared to (%40)ish. From these differences, we can also assume that transportation is more expensive as it takes more mass to move beer than it does liquor. Since beer also needs to be constantly refridgerated when in-store, travelling and at our homes, this is yet another thing than can help bend our assumptions. With these considerations, one can make a theoretical estimation about wich product costs more. We can then do some calculations: find the exact amount of alcohol in the container that you are buying using the volume and the percentage of alcohol (a 500ml container with 20 percent alcohol has 100 ml of actual alcohol in it) - then find the ml of alcohol/$ or the $1/ml of alcohol ratio by dividing the ml of alcohol by the cost of the beverage, or the other way around - with this fixed number, you can do this for several different brands and types of alcohol to determine the cheapest. Yes, cheap rum, while cheaper, will not be as pleasant as an experience as a nice cold brew, but in your drunkeness, greed and indulgence, what do you deserve? What gets the job done faster? What is cheaper? In these times, your luxuries are your financial downfall, be wise with what you allow yourself in indulge in.
